German Standard Butterfly Valve
A butterfly valve, also known as a flap valve, is a structurally simple regulating valve used for on/off control of media in low-pressure pipelines. It operates by means of a circular disc (the valve disc or butterfly plate) that rotates around its valve shaft to open or close the flow passage. This type of valve can be used to control the flow of various fluids, including air, water, steam, corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metal, and radioactive substances. In pipelines, it primarily serves the functions of shutoff and throttling. The closing element of a butterfly valve is a disc-shaped plate that rotates around its own axis within the valve body to achieve opening, closing, or flow regulation.
