Japanese Standard Gate Valve
A gate valve is a type of valve whose closure member (gate) moves perpendicularly to the direction of the fluid flow. Gate valves are designed for fully open or fully closed positions and cannot be used for regulating or throttling flow. Sealing is achieved through contact between the valve seat and the gate. Typically, the sealing surfaces are overlaid with wear-resistant metal materials, such as 1Cr13, STL6, or stainless steel, via hardfacing. Gates can be either rigid or flexible, and based on this, gate valves are classified as rigid gate valves or flexible gate valves. Common materials for gate valves include cast iron, cast steel, and stainless steel.
