Globe valve, also known as stop valve, is a forcibly sealed valve with a plug-shaped disc that moves linearly to open or close. Closing requires applying pressure to the disc for a tight seal. In traditional designs, medium enters below the disc, making closing harder than opening and requiring a thicker stem. Modern self-sealing designs usually have medium enter above the disc, reducing closing force and allowing a thinner stem with better sealing. Flow direction is top-down. When opened 25%–30% of nominal diameter, flow is maximized (fully open). Connection types: flanged, threaded, or welded. Stem types: non-rising stem or rising-rotating stem. Suitable for cutting off, regulating, and throttling various fluids (air, water, steam, corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metal, radioactive media) due to reliable shut-off, short travel, and proportional flow control.
